“As GaGa says, some people are just “Born This Way.” I am a gay guy who is usually the “butch” one in the relationship. Despite the cult of hypermasculinity in both straight and gay culture, I do tend to like guys who are more “femme” or even, dare I say, “nelly.” (And we all have our moments.) It takes a lot of courage for these guys to just be themselves in a both gay and straight culture that looks down on them.
Sometimes you just have to celebrate those things which people taunt and hate and bully you over. Got a slight lisp, or a little swish in the tush? Own that and take it and work it. Throw it back in their faces.
I’ve also found that people who are critical of other gay men for their flamboyancy or fabulousness often need to work through some issues of internalized homophobia about what it means to be a “man.” I’m not saying that’s you, but I do have an acquittance who uses the term “mannerisms” to mean “too gay acting.”
